Manipur is once again in the grip of turmoil as a fresh outbreak of violence claimed the lives of 13 individuals in the Tengnoupal district. The region has been reeling from ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 3, resulting in staggering casualties and displacements, with at least 182 fatalities and around 50,000 people rendered homeless.

Reports from security officials detailed a firefight that erupted between two militant groups at Leithu village near Saibol in the Tengnoupal district around noon. The nearest security forces were reportedly 10 kilometers away at the time of the incident. Upon their arrival, forces discovered the bodies of 13 individuals in Leithu village, notably without any weapons nearby.

An officer involved in the matter suggested that the deceased may not have belonged to the Leithu area and could have arrived from elsewhere before engaging in the fatal confrontation with another group.

As of now, the police and security forces have not confirmed the identities of the deceased individuals, further complicating an already tense and complex situation.
